After over 6 months of no blog posts, I am finally ready to return to Tumblr and let everybody know what has been going on in my life. If we’re connected on my favorite social sites; Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN, you haven’t missed too much. I created profiles on Instagram (obsessed) and Pinterest (never use it). I have come to understand the complicated world of email marketing far more than I would have ever imagined. I started diving heavily into Wordpress and the study of Inbound Marketing practices, Instead of just partnering with professionals, I have become a lot more familiar with online marketing skillsets like SEO and PPC management and I’m learning more every day. I have fallen back in love with writing as well as acknowledged the fact that content is king, so even if I didn’t love it, I still needed to start doing it. I have made it a point to master graphic and web design in 2013 and I have started taking small steps into the photography and video editing arena. I threw an event called #ChicagoCares that raised over $5,000.00 for stateside victims of Hurricane Sandy and recently started a personal 30 day self-improvement project called The Chibernation that I can’t wait to share with all of you. I left my full time job as the Director of Marketing at Kumbuya and I’ve thrown myself completely into my own business, Mahlmann Media. My old roommates from high school moved out, I graduated into the biggest bedroom/bathroom combo I have ever had and I now have two beautiful, down-to-earth, but super wild female roommates. I have finally opened the door to the possibility of slowing down and finding someone to share the journey with and I am about to launch my companies new website with a marketing push to compliment it! The new site launches on Monday, but it will be up this weekend as I test and edit so feel free to take a peek and let me know what you think! That’s all for now, but expect more very soon! :)
A friend James Goeke @jamesgoeke is always posting up links to mixes and videos and songs that I end up loving, but haven’t heard before. I just learned he has a blog where all of these magical tunes are organized and shared and I wanted to share the music with all of you.
I took a new position as the Director of Marketing with an internet start-up based out of Chicago recently and I have had quite a few people asking me the same thing…
What the hell is Kumbuya?
I figured I’d give you a little description to give you an idea, but I’d love for you to visit the site in its beta format, poke around and give it a feel for yourself.
Us in a nutshell…
Kumbuya is about coming together to get what you want — anything from achieving a goal like running a marathon, to a deal to save money with your friends at a local restaurant. Tell the world what you want, meet people who want the same things, and connect with businesses that will meet your demand. Log in through Facebook to participate, or click “Explore” to see what the world wants.
Since the Internet is “everywhere” you don’t have to hire the SEO firm down the street if you don’t want too. As long as they are US-based, feel free to work with the best SEO firm for you, even if they are in a different time zone. However, if you want to have that face-to-face interaction that comes with working with a local SEO firm, here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. Respect someone’s time If you’re just shopping around, stick to the phone. You’ll be able to get all the information you want in an hour long (maybe even less) phone call. Most small, local SEO firms don’t have the manpower to spend all day chasing down leads that aren’t seriously looking to hire an SEO firm.
2. Focus on small/midsize companies While larger SEO companies may look incredibly impressive, working with a smaller SEO firm means you’re more likely to work directly with an experienced SEO strategist that customizes your SEO campaign around your needs and goals.
3. Beware the sales rep! A sales representative that works for an SEO firm, but doesn’t actually do SEO, will do and say just about anything to get your business. That is their job—to bring in new clients.
These are scary times in real estate, with the ghosts of our homes’ lost value spreading gloom. But a few houses around Chicago are rumored to be truly haunted. Here’s a look at four of them, only one of which is still a residence.
Mayflower Place, Lake Forest This opulent North Shore mansion was built in 1915 as a wedding gift from John Shedd, the president of Marshall Field & Co., to his daughter Laura and her groom, Charles Schweppe. Laura died in 1937, and four years later, Charles shot himself to death in his bedroom. The house stood empty until 1987, and in those years stories sprang up about Charles’s ghost haunting his bedroom and keeping one window there crystal clear, even as the home’s numerous other panes were covered with grime.
Another family bought the house in 1987 and restored it lavishly. We shot video there when they had it up for sale in 2009. The house was later put in receivership.

Read this article this morning from Entrepreneur.com’s blog and wanted to pass it along to you, the first 5 are here, the link to the rest of the article can be found at the end. :)
1. Be goal-oriented: You need to create a business-aligned communications strategy where everything links back to company goals. Without such a strategy, you’re shooting blanks. Let your strategy dictate your communications instead of knee-jerk reaction to events or “we need a blog post immediately because something truly inconsequential justhappened.”
2. Use great writers: It’s the quality of your thoughts that are on display and you need writers who can relate them intelligently, easily switching hats from being conversational for socially engineered content, to being informative and logical for articles, white papers and case studies.
3. Calendar everything: Plan your work and work your plan, and that starts with creating and vigilantly maintaining an editorial calendar for nearly all of your content (i.e., blog posts, strategic social media placements, white papers, case studies, webinars, videos, etc.). Share the calendar with your entire organization and ask for ideas from everyone for new content going forward.
4. Distribution rules: If content is king, then distribution is the ace. Putting content in front of the right consumers — and lots of them — is key. Without traffic, your content is worthless. This means distributing your content using social channels such as Facebook and Twitter, aligning with the right content curators and securing links from relevant sites.
5. Wear a white hat: The worse thing you can do is employ keyword stuffing and bogus blogs to serve as a link bait to your website. The best way to generate a high SERP (search engine result page) is to create great content over and over again.
Let’s face it – we are increasingly living in a world of on-demand everything - dating, deals, music, shopping, social media, television, texting – the list goes on and on. One Chicago start-up is bringing that personalized, on-demand service to restaurants, hotels, and lounges near you. SilvrSpoon turns your iPhone or Android into a remote control where the content is food and drinks - not for delivery or pickup - but while you’re actually out dining and drinking. In a nutshell, SilvrSpoon has created the digital one more button that gets you what you want, when you want it.

I unfortunately learned this after acting the opposite of it for quite some time. Everything from the busy work, from putting people’s requests and agenda’s before mine, by occupying myself with busy work and focusing on amassing friends and followers versus the quality of my relationships. GREAT ARTICLE!
I read this at about 5am this morning on Quora, and I have to tell you, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I’ve been saying something close to this for awhile now, but I never quite gave it enough attention to put it quite as succinctly as this:
New FIRE Mix from Up Yours (aka Woody Wood) and DJ Dante the Don called “Bang This I Dare You Part 1!” I just finished playing it, and I double dog dare you to bang it. Awesome track selections, great transitions, had me jumping out of my seat. <3
